The southbound lanes of Interstate 77 have reopened after a serious crash between Cornelius and Huntersville. All four lanes of I-77, including the express lanes, were blocked by the crash.

North Carolina Highway Patrol said a driver in a Jeep was traveling northbound on I-77 and lost control, then slammed into the median and overturned, landing in the southbound toll lanes.

North Carolina Highway Patrol originally told WCNC Charlotte one person had died and two others were seriously injured, but Highway Patrol later clarified there are no confirmed deaths. Officials are investigating the crash as if it were fatal, though.
